Globetrotting engineer
👉 Emilio’s journey has taken him from a wealthy neighborhood in Madrid, straight into the jungle in the Caroni River in Venezuela creating a network of rain sensors for GTE to Arizona and now Boca Raton, Florida.
👉 Decisive moment #1 – Emilio worked with GTE in establishing a rain-sensing network for the Guri Dam in Venezuela. The Guri Dam was the 2nd largest in the world at the time (after the Aswan Dam in Egypt) and got him used to huge projects.
👉 Decisive moment #2 – Accepted an offer from GTE to move to Arizona and work on one of the most sophisticated telecom networks at the time.
👉 One huge and unexpected change – Cellular networks. No one has a land line anymore. Cellular is the clear winner but continues to evolve continually.
👉 AI will be fantastic for cellular. While new networks continue being built, there is a need to correct bugs in the older parts of the networks and AI helps tremendously.
👉 About older candidates – Keep an open mind and don’t assume that a candidate over 55 won’t be adequate. Older candidates have seen a lot, they understand what works, what doesn’t and you’re hiring that efficiency.
