His life is like sailing: not linear
๐ The Scoop – Todd has had a life full of interesting pivots. Began as a sculptor in San Francisco, founder of a furniture company in Mexico, currently a captain in Miami delivering boats all over the Caribbean.
๐ Decisive Moment #1 – Decided to open a wood and metal furniture factory in Monterrey, Mexico just as the furniture industry turned minimalist.
๐ Decisive Moment #2 – Closed the factory, came to Miami, where he opened up a studio working with high end interiors (clubs, restaurants) and working with architects and interior designers.
๐ Unexpected change or event – Being a boat captain.
๐ What did he do? – After Hurricane Wilma salvaged a catamaran, rebuilt it, transformed it into a “sort-of-party-boat” and lived in it.
Today, Todd remains a practicing artist, with a studio in Little Haiti, and continues delivering boats all over the Caribbean.
๐ About older workers – Older captains have a lot of blue water miles under them and have sailed under every conceivable condition. Pair it with a younger sailor who is not afraid to sail into a storm and you have the perfect energy.
