👉 The Scoop – Richard worked for Time Magazine in Latin America when print media moved the world. He survived the first (and disastrous) merger of the “Digital and Print” world: AOL + Time Warner. He moved to the WSJ, dropped out of corporate, wrote a novel, had to learn social media to promote his novel… and the rest is history.

👉 Decisive Moment #1 – Choosing to be a writer as a professional direction. And I was a high school dropout in London back in the day.

👉 Decisive Moment #2 – Working for Ad Week magazine as a promotion copywriter, and pitching a lot of ad agencies with my portfolio, got headhunted by Time magazine in the early 90s, and said, okay,

👉 Decisive Moment #3 – Saying I've had enough of the corporate world and going it alone to write my novel, my corporate novel.

👉 Unexpected change or event – Social media

👉 What did they do? – When I quit the journal, I got into social media. Originally, to promote my novel, but then I started with a couple of friends. We started a company called the Levity Department, and the goal was social media should be fun. We started working with some brands, some celebrities. I mentioned I worked a long time with Isaiah Whitlock Jr., Clay Davis from the Wire. We did a bobblehead, biggest still the biggest bobblehead in Kickstarter history. The big shift was the algorithm, it changed everything. So, my decision was “don't chase the algorithm” and focus myself on what is important to me in my life, my career, the clients I want to work with right now. We do more meaningful content. Chose meaning over clicks.

👉 About older workers – There's brilliant young people. There's older people who were older than me I've learned a lot from in the last few years. I just think that there's a lot to be learned and the future of humanity is at stake. So, let's listen to some people who have a little bit more to say about it, who have lived and experienced on how humanity should be brought forward.
